The perfect summer getaway

In the midst of the vast mountain ranges of Negros Occidental, you will find the beautiful town of Don Salvador Benedicto. Situated on a semi-plateau section of these mountain ranges about 2,500 feet above sea level, it is the youngest municipality of Negros Occidental. Also known by its initials, DSB is approximately 47 kilometers away from Bacolod City, the capital of Negros Occidental, locals and tourists love the cool climate that the town offers.

In fact, when it is searing hot at 38° Celsius in Bacolod and nearby cities and towns, you will discover that DSB’s temperature can be anywhere from a comfortable 22° to 26° Celsius during the hottest days of summer. During the rainy season, it can go as low as 20° Celsius, with the coldest months starting in November to February with temperatures ranging from a high of 16° Celsius to a low of 12° Celsius. Because of this, DSB has always been regarded as the Summer Capital of Negros Occidental.

It is not surprising, therefore, when affluent families of the lowland cities of Bacolod, Talisay, Silay and elsewhere bought properties in DSB and erected their summer residences.

Domestic and foreign tourists would flock to DSB during the hot season to bask in the cold climate and enjoy the various attractions that the town has to offer. These attractions include the Malatan-og falls, a majestic waterfall that cascade down from a height of more than 70 feet amidst a lush forest cover and vegetation, the magnificent terraces that locals use to grow their rice, and various spring resorts like the Balokon Spring Resort and Toreno Farm Resort. Visitors would also frequent the town for its really sweet pineapples and delicious bananas.

You would also be amazed at the abundance of water in DSB as you will see some of them flowing freely from spring sources on the mountain sides. The giant ferns adorning the cliffs just before the lush forest cover and vegetation will definitely remind you of an era long before time. The lush forest cover provides sanctuary for wildlife like the Philippine spotted deer, warty pigs, Tarictic hornbills, hawks, and many more. So do not be surprised if you see any of these animals in your adventure trek in the uplands of Don Salvador Benedicto.

In all, DSB is a wonderful place to be all year round, particularly during summertime. It is a place where families and friends can enjoy the company of each other while doing various activities. So if you are looking for a place to visit during the summer, you can make Don Salvador Benedicto your destination. One thing is for sure, you will be very happy with your visit!
